LEAD! Foundation Summer Mentorship Programme for Young Musicians — 27 July – 6 August 2023

Fiskars Festival Orchestra

LEAD! is looking for talented young violinists, violists, cellists and double-basses (age 18-30) to join its annual mentorship programme at the Fiskars Summer Festival this year. The programme is aimed at students and those in the early stages of their profession, and encourages entrepreneurship and independence while creating a setting for sharing knowledge about the music industry.

The festival takes place in the idyllic Fiskars Village, 90 minutes from Helsinki. The chamber music series and orchestral concerts take place in various locations around Fiskars, including formerly industrial spaces and galleries.

The programme focuses on developing orchestral leadership- and communication skills, and includes chamber music masterclasses and performances with mentors as part of our summer chamber music series. The programme also includes concerts with the newly-created Fiskars Festival Orchestra, directed by leading conductors Jukka-Pekka Saraste, James Gaffigan and Dalia Stasevska.

Musicians are also invited to take part in seminars and workshops on the music industry, as well as career mentoring sessions. These are led by LEAD! Foundation’s industry mentors Paul Hughes and Sarah Osa, as well as other guest speakers.

Guest instrumental mentors this year include Tero Latvala, Cam Kjøll, Alexander Gordon and Tuomas Lehto.

The festival also offers a masterclass for young conductors, and playing in the masterclass orchestra with the Lohja City Orchestra and our guest mentors is requested on a voluntary basis.

LEAD! will provide and organise accommodation in shared double rooms and travel to and from Fiskars within Europe, and provide a daily lunch and some evening meals and drinks.
In addition to this, LEAD! offers a symbolic fee of 500 EUR.

27/28 July 2023: Arrival in Fiskars
29 July – 6 August: rehearsals in Fiskars, Lohja and Billnäs
