We want to support the learning and career of young conductors despite the restrictions of the current situation. The success of our first online experiences have encouraged us to explore how to refine and diversify our digital teaching offer.
We are therefore very excited to introduce the LEAD! Digital Academy Sessions, starting in January 2021.
In line with our holistic philosophy, these sessions provide a unique opportunity to improve your conducting technique while developing the practical career skills we believe are vital, such as contract negotiation, networking and understanding the agency world. We hope this will support participants in navigating the crisis the cultural sector is currently facing, and, most importantly, ensure they are well prepared to grasp the opportunities that arise when our industry opens up again.
Our very first session – the Winter Session – will take place on 23-24 January 2021. It will combine a conducting masterclass with Jukka-Pekka Saraste with an Essential Career Skills Workshop on financial negotiation with Frances Maunder, mentor and co-founder of LEAD!
DETAILED PROGRAM
DAY 1 – 23 January 2021, 14:00 CET: Conducting Masterclass with Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
Jukka-Pekka will analyse and discuss the conducting videos of 4 selected active participants. This will be followed by a Q&A session, leading to a discussion with Jukka-Pekka on how to best prepare for an orchestra engagement, to which all participants are invited to take part.
DAY 2 – 24 January 2021, 14:00 CET: Essential Skills Workshop #1: “Negotiate Your Fee with Confidence” with Frances Maunder.
Frances will guide participants through the key components of a successful negotiation. She will help them to understand relevant fee structures and show how to achieve a fair fee and favourable conditions for the whole engagement. A Q&A session and a broad discussion of the music industry will follow.
APPLICATION
To apply, please fill out the following form by Sunday, 10th January 2021. Jukka-Pekka Saraste will select 4 active and 20 passive participants based on their video material. We will be in touch shortly afterwards to let them know if you have been selected.
MASTERCLASS FEE
The current pandemic has resulted in the cancellation of most cultural activities, and we realise that this has resulted in a loss of income for many artists. We, therefore, want to make our Winter Session available for a special one-time fee of Euro 275 (usual price Euro 450) for active participants and Euro 190 ( usual price Euro 320) for passive participants.
